Hi!
My name is Cara. I’m a writer, advocate, and award-winning journalist. A total Steel City girl at heart, I now make my home in Wisconsin.
I write about faith, justice, history, and culture. My work has appeared in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Florida Times-Union, and my nonfiction essays have appeared in Fragments of Ourselves and Start with Welcome. I’m part of two fantastic writing communities, the Wisconsin Writers Association, and the Oshkosh Area Writers Club.
I’m blessed to call many immigrants friends. These relationships have led me to work as a content writer at Bethany Christian Services, one of 10 resettlement agencies serving refugee and immigrant children.
My dissertation (Biola University, 2021) explored how sub-Saharan African immigrant women experience belonging when visiting their country of origin. Specifically, how they engage in culturally expected activities, experience womanhood, and navigate reverse culture shock.
I’d love to connect! Say hi on Instagram or drop me a message here.
